The Telecom Duties include but are not limited to:
Organize and direct incoming calls through the PBX console in a most expedient and professional manner.

  • Answers switchboard in a calm and professional manner.
  • Pages all personnel as authorized in department procedures in a professional manner.
  • Pages, verifies, and records all emergencies calls.
  • Maintains department on-call schedules.
  • Reports all telephone repair problems to appropriate areas as directed in department guidelines.
  • Monitors all alarm indicators located in the PBX operator room: Medical gas alarm, Oxygen line pressure, fire alarm panel. Reports immediately to the Engineering department when monitors go into alarm.
  • Monitors dedicated CODE phone line at switchboard. Responds immediately if alarms activate as authorized in department procedures.
  • Accurately transfers call to the correct extension or department.
  • Uses two-way radio to contact security.
  • Uses beepers for both in-house and off-premises messages.
  • Reviews Communications Journal at the beginning of each shift.
  • Records information into the Communication Journal, includes Codes, customer/employer complaints, equipment problems/repairs, notable incidents, safety issues and concerns, and any other information that needs to be communicated to other shifts.
  • Assists with and records all long distance calls handled for authorized personnel. Records information on these calls into the long distance call log.
  • Reports supply and equipment needs to supervisor.
  • Utilizes the CPCS system to facilitate inquiry to provide accurate patient location.
