Job Description

The Manager of Audiovisual Operations is responsible for handling the day-to-day audiovisual (AV) needs of Liberty Science Center. LSC’s AV team provides services related to educational video conferencing, stage productions, corporate meetings, gala style events, and planetarium/theater tech support and maintenance.

A motivated self starter, you think quickly on your feet to resolve issues when faced with technical hiccups. Your customer service is impeccable and your AV knowledge is second to none.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Associate Director of AV Operations with employee relationships and development
  • Manage schedules for AV staff to ensure adequate support across the institution
  • Properly train technicians on all av systems throughout the institution
  • Provide proper support and technology design for all Events and Center Stage Science programs
  • Manager of video conferencing solutions for Live From program and EFT’s
  • Coordinate project timelines, schedules, and resources for capital upgrades
  • Assist the Associate Director with yearly operating and capital budgets
  • Collaborate with planetarium staff on preventive maintenance on projection, sound and lighting systems
  • Create a preventive maintenance schedule, for the planetarium and 3D theater, on projection, sound and lighting systems
  • Generate projector issue reports on a monthly basis and share them with upper management
  • Specify areas of need and work on partnerships with large scale AV companies


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Research and knowledge share of emerging tech and best practices in AV
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and to operate in deadline-driven situations that may produce a certain degree of chaos/pressure
  • Ability to function as a self-starter who can take initiative and successfully drive from beginning to end.
  • Effective interaction with customers and colleagues.
  • Effective problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in audio/visual management role
  • 5+ years audio/visual support, and/or staging for either a large organization or production company preferred. Knowledge of equipment, vendors, and AV- related maintenance. Must be able to work both independently and as a team player. A proven sense of showmanship and an appreciation for the guest and fellow staff is also required.
  • Technical diploma or degree in related field
  • Digital cinema experience is a huge plus


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. LSC’s standard payroll work week runs from Saturday to Friday. This role requires a flexible work schedule in order to cover the variety of events at LSC. You must be able to work weekends and evenings as business needs require.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position requires heavy lifting. The Manager of AV Operations must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The Manager will need to work on ladders and scaffolding and crawl underneath tables to run and tape down cables. In addition, the Manager must have the ability to work in low level lighting and be able to work with strobe and flashing lights.
