Full / Part Time: Full-Time Location: Springfield, Massachusetts Regular/Temporary: Regular Baystate Health is an integrated health care delivery system serving a population of nearly 1 million people in western Massachusetts. What you will be doing: The EMS Communication Specialist will work in our Health System Capacity Management / Transfer Center coordinating the flow of patients between our various sites and discharges to LTC/SNF or home via ambulance or wheel chair van. In addition to having excellent communication skills and the ability to organize and prioritize, the EMS Communications Specialist will : 1) possess a MA EMT-paramedic license, 2) have experience in EMS / out of hospital care, 3) be expert in judging the clinical needs of the patients to book the appropriate level of care transport, 4) communicate with nursing units across the health system to coordinate the transports to ensure timely service 5) be knowledgeable of MA State Treatment protocols in order to do basic CQI, 6) be knowledge of the Medicare allowable rates to review invoices for appropriate level of care billing, 7) communicate with outside facilities and agencies, 8) protect confidentiality, and 9) use a variety of communication technologies and computer software applications. Adheres to system compliance policies and performs all other duties as assigned. What you need to qualify: High School or GED, Associates degree preferred 1 year of pre-hospital care at the paramedic level; 5 years of pre-hospital care at the paramedic level preferred Requires effective verbal and written communication skills through various media including telephone, radio and e-mail.

Requires fundamental computer skills and must quickly gain proficiency in the use of numerous software applications used by the emergency department. Requires the ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
