The mission of Internal Audit (IA) is to enhance and protect organizational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight. Internal Audit helps Silvergate accomplish its objective by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management and control process. IA is directly responsible for the Audit Committee of the Board.

The Senior Auditor (Professional Practice) reports to the Director of Professional Practice (DPP) and is responsible for assisting the DPP in maintaining compliance with regulatory guidance and company policies, facilitating both internal and external reporting, and assisting in the development and execution of department initiatives. The Professional Practice (PP) group works with senior levels of management and internal audit department colleagues to facilitate the execution of the annual audit plan and the completion of required reporting and/or projects. This group is also responsible for leading, directing, evaluating, and developing internal audit professionals to ensure audit activities are conducted to a high standard of accuracy, rigor, and credibility, in adherence to Institute of Internal Auditors (IA), regulatory, and company standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Assist in the Internal Audit Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP) annual internal assessment and conduct Internal Audit QAIP (Quality Assurance and Improvement Programs) engagement-level reviews to enable an evaluation of the Internal Audit activity’s conformance with the IIA standards and regulatory guidance (e.g., Federal Reserve Bank SR letters 13-1 and 03-5)
  • Communicate and report the QAIP results within IA department
  • Coordinate the other QAIP activities including the post-mortem audit briefing and post-audit survey process
  • Work closely with other audit directors and issues coordinators to facilitate timely resolution of outstanding audit or risk concerns
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of management reporting, including but not limited to audit issue follow-up, IA productivity, Audit Plan and budget administration, methodology matters, QAIP results, etc., intended to be used by the IA management and other stakeholders (e.g., senior management, the board, audit committee of the board, external auditor, and regulators)
  • Maintain the tracker of audit project billing and delivery status
  • Assist the DPP in collaborating with department colleagues and associates to strengthen their skills, competencies, expertise, capabilities, and specifically their understanding of the financial
  • services industry and regulatory issues impacting functions, operations, and Internal Audit leading practices
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional growth by assuming progressively more challenging assignments, proactively seeking relevant education, and training opportunities
  • Promote the use of data and metrics to identify trends within internal audit department performance and recommend preventative action plans, as necessary.
  • Proactively communicate with the DPP and colleagues in a remote working environment and escalate concerns to the DPP on a timely basis
  • Participate in activities within the Bank to increase understanding and awareness of key issues and new developments
  • Contribute to the positive and collaborative culture by maintaining cooperative relationships (assisting other project teams when necessary), facilitating the resolution of conflicts, sharing information, and accepting and providing feedback
  • Maintain current knowledge of all relevant federal and state laws and regulations, IIA standards, and company policies and procedures
  • Assist in special projects and perform other duties, as assigned
  • Must adhere to the principles and expectations outlined in the IIA Code of Ethics
  • Not to harm consumers with any act that could be misleading, unfair, deceptive, or abusive in act or practice

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3+ years of Banking and/or Fintech internal audit experience required (Or 3+ years of experience in a consulting capacity serving the internal audit needs of Banking and/or Fintech clients), preferably with regional or national banks
  • Strong knowledge of IIA Standards and Code of Ethics
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, detail-oriented
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Exemplify a positive attitude, strong work ethics, teamwork, and professionalism
  • Proficient with MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and SharePoint

BANK SECRECY ACT

Responsible for adhering to the reporting and recordkeeping requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering rules and regulations, observing economic sanctions by prohibiting transactions as specified by the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), following the bank’s customer identification program (CIP) rules, observing all Bank policies and procedures relating to BSA, OFAC, CIP, and related acts, and participation in ongoing related training.

Salary Range:
$108,675 – $132,825 annually
