Tableau is looking for a Senior Content Writer to join our Data Management team. The job of the Senior Content Writer is to design and deliver compelling content tailored for key stakeholder groups that will establish and extend internal thought leadership on Data Culture and Literacy (DCL). The Senior Content Writer discovers appropriate topics, determines a content plan, creates content in appropriate formats, and determines success measures to monitor success and improve.

This position requires experience developing narrative strategy, a reporter’s mentality, and a passion for helping people become more data-informed. Strong experience in content development, including the development of audience personas, customer journey maps, content distribution plans, and multimedia content for internal audiences are requirements. With a mastery in the art and science of content marketing and script writing, the senior content writer must have the analytical abilities to gather key educational/learning content requirements from internal SMEs and from across the Tableau enterprise, to apply strategic planning skills to create a content roadmap that effectively enables internal audiences in their data fluency journeys.

The ideal candidate is a collaborator, problem solver, idea generator, detail oriented editor, high production writer, and storyteller with a firm understanding of effective ways to talk about data and an understanding of how to make data relevant to key leaders internally.

Senior Content Writer Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a content editorial calendar, including regular direction from key stakeholders – Customer Success, IT/Operations, Data Management Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and Finance.
  • Determine integration points to support high-impact public events, e.g. Tableau Data Day, Tableau Conference, Dreamforce.
  • Lead the content audit process to identify gaps in our existing content and the characteristics of high-performing content. Work with content owners to make data-driven recommendations for new content and/or updates.
  • Support and mature our data management content brand architecture with input from corporate marketing. Implement standards, systems, best practices and templates for DCL content.
  • Scope and develop a DCL Resource hub, an accessible channel for both internal audiences. Track and report on traffic and content accessed.
  • Write and produce primers, white papers, playbooks, podcasts, explainer videos with the support of internal subject matter authorities.
  • Develop and monitor key performance metrics for content, including organic traffic, engagement, activation, leads driven to product. Measure and analyze what’s working and what isn’t with regard to our content outreach efforts.
  • Work closely with our Blueprint leader to ensure content is integrated and we are making best use of Trailhead self service learning as a content channel
  • Be a self-starter with the passion, ability, and energy to thrive in a growing company

Skill Sets

  • 7+ years of content and curriculum development, management, and production experience; business experience in journalism, communications, training, or education welcome
  • Fluent in instructional design and curriculum development; experience repurposing content into different formats, managing versions and distribution
  • Subject knowledge of data, data culture, and data management
  • Stellar writing and copywriting, storytelling, and scriptwriting skills; writing samples and/or portfolio required
  • Experience writing and producing explainer videos or similar content (scriptwriting, booking guests, managing creatives, editing audio/video)
  • Demonstrated success collaborating across departments and mobilizing content contributors and cross-functional teams around long-term projects and efforts
  • High attention to detail; flawless spelling and grammar
  • A flair for brevity
  • Ability to deftly manage multiple work streams
  • Analytical mind – ability to spot patterns and trends in content performance and data
  • Understanding of how to measure and track impact of content campaigns
  • A sound understanding of visual design and an appreciation of the interplay between copy and visual elements
  • Excellent Powerpoint skills; experience working with Articulate, Figma, Quip, and Google Analytics a plus
  • A sense of humor combined with a professional character and the ability to represent the stakeholder
