Art Director

As the Art Director, you’ll bring the Boulevard brand to life through design of graphics, illustrations and photography for social media, advertising, web, events, collateral and more. Your graphics should capture the attention of our target audience and communicate the right message. For this, you need to have a creative flair and a strong ability to translate requirements into design.
As the lead member of the design team, you’ll be the go-to person for overarching design strategy and high visibility marketing projects. You’ll oversee all design projects and manage our design team (currently one Sr. Graphic Designer) to ensure brand consistency and quality. As the marketing department scales, you’ll attract and hire top talent to grow the design team. And you’ll manage contractors and partner with creative agencies to effectively manage resources.
This role requires attention to detail, a refined visual eye, and interest in technology and the self-care industry. You have a sophisticated grasp of design fundamentals: typographic scale, composition, layout, and color theory. Beyond just design, you have strong opinions on photography, illustration, and motion design.
You’ll be responsible for updating our brand guidelines and bringing a refreshed visual identity to life through refreshed marketing materials and creative. This is an exciting opportunity to take Boulevard to the next level as we roll out a brand refresh.
What you’ll do here:
- Develop and maintain brand standards and marketing asset templates
- Create new imagery, illustrations and photography that align to our brand
- Art direct photo shoots for new lifestyle brand photography
- Collaborate with multimedia contractors to ensure brand consistency for video shoots
- Conceptualize visuals based on requirements; from mood boards, presenting the final concept, and execution
- Contribute to all areas of marketing design, including graphics, social, web, email, presentations, etc
- Collaborate with Marketing teams to create content, advertisements, website landing pages, and collateral
- Collaborate with with the Product Design team on a common set of visual guidelines that work seamlessly from our marketing website into our product UI to create a consistent customer experience
- Ensure final deliverables are visually appealing, on-brand, and compatible on various platforms
- Oversee the creation of a digital asset management library
- Stay up-to-date with knowledge of digital design, advertising, and best practices

- Excellent communication skills, comfortable sharing ideas in group meetings and with the marketing leadership team
- Refined eye for design with a passion and eagerness to elevate standards with other creative people
- Demonstrated understanding of marketing/advertising, social storytelling and asset creation to concept and develop original design content
- Solid people management skills, able to provide constructive feedback on specific projects and overall performance
- Good judgment about what type of creative best represents the Boulevard brand
- Open to feedback and know how and when to defend design choices and able to interpret feedback and apply critiques
- A proven track record of digital experience advertising/marketing work, including display, rich media and mobile executions
- Ability to collaborate effectively with marketing, other departments, and agencies
- Strong working knowledge of interactive design, user-centered experience design, brand development, digital marketing and creative processes
- Great at multi-tasking with good attention to detail who can deliver quality work on time
- Experience working in a request queue/project management environment
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years experience developing design and marketing creative for in-house design teams or agencies, in the technology, beauty or fashion space
- 2+ years experience managing a design team
- An outstanding portfolio, showcasing strong communication design and design principles
- Proven experience art directing photo shoots, as well as working with directors, illustrators and retouchers
- Strong color correction, photo manipulation, illustration, and understanding of composition
- Expert use of design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field
Nice to have:
- Experience setting up and managing Brandfolder or similar digital asset management platform
- Motion skills (on After Effects, Cinema 4D)
- Experience using Asana or similar project/request management platform
