RMS Business Diversity Leader

This position is responsible for leading Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) initiatives and driving cultural change regarding D&I within the Company. The position is also responsible for identifying systems, programs and processes that contribute to achieving Raytheon’s overall vision of inclusion, including developing both quantitative and qualitative success metrics and measures for each key initiative. The successful incumbent will be a subject matter expert for D&I and provide advice and counsel to Business Presidents and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the Executive Diversity Leadership Team (EDLT). As a member of the Raytheon Diversity Council (RDC) the incumbent is a contributing member and Company subject matter expert regarding D&I management and as such he or she will interface with the (EDLT) and the CEO. This position reports directly to the business Vice President of Human Resources and functionally to the Raytheon Chief Diversity Officer. The incumbent’s success is dependent in part upon the effective coordination of enterprise level and business unit initiatives and developing the programs, structures, relationships and influences connected to both, with mutually accountable and interdependent performance. The incumbent is responsible for conceiving, establishing and implementing all aspects of the D&I function. The successful incumbent must possess a broad range of business and leadership skills and D&I competencies within the prime areas described below

Principal Duties and Accountabilities

Diversity Strategy Development
The position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of D&I strategy in collaboration with the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and EDLT that builds a culture based on mutual respect, inclusion and mutual accountability for results. The strategy must address cultural change, diversity education and skill building that improve behaviors, strengthen customer collaboration, and support Talent Acquisition and Talent Management objectives. In addition the strategy must ensure consistency and integration with the enterprise commitments and overall Raytheon D&I strategy. Strategy development is achieved through collaboration by the incumbent between the key stakeholders, e.g. CDO, RDC, EDLT and SLT with input from Executive Diversity Champions, Executive Councils, HR VPs and Business Presidents.

Diversity Strategy Execution
The position is the principal leader and manager of projects, programs and initiatives and other tactics regarding D&I. The position is also responsible for establishing and maintaining a visible presence across the business by implementing companywide D&I Strategies in the business, including, but not limited to Diversity Councils and through the implementation of business and enterprise initiatives. The position is also responsible for coordinating and managing the projects and initiatives efforts of the Diversity Council and Leadership Team, including the planning and execution of projects and the involvement of employees worldwide as appropriate.

Diversity Competence
The successful incumbent is responsible for the development and enhancement of the D&I skills and competencies of all employees that are necessary to achieve and maintain a diverse and inclusive culture and work environment. This relates to all levels of the organization from senior leaders to individual contributors. The position is also responsible for assisting in developing the practice and function of Diversity building D&I competence at the overall company level. This is accomplished primarily via the RDC. This includes continually improving the skills and effectiveness of the business diversity council, leaders at all levels and ERG’s. In order to drive cultural and behavior change and increase competence in others the successful incumbent must demonstrate a personal commitment to D&I and continual personal learning and growth. He or she will demonstrate mastery in Diversity through on-going personal development and by demonstrating role model behaviors consistent with Raytheon’s values, respect pillars and Diversity competencies.

Coaching, Counseling and Consulting
The successful incumbent is also responsible for providing advice and counsel as needed and requested to leaders across the business. The successful incumbent will improve the organizations’ understanding of the complexities of Diversity utilizing accepted Diversity concepts, theory and practice and will address issues and opportunities at the individual, group and organizational/systems level. The incumbent will be a sought-after subject matter expert charged with increasing the D&I competence of the Company, individually and collectively.

External Branding and Involvement
The successful incumbent will represent Raytheon in venues related to company efforts regarding D&I and associated community programs.

Required Skills

  • 14+ years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years managing distributed teams and leading D&I, Talent Development, and/or Talent Management efforts.
  • Demonstrated strategic and visionary leadership that inspires commitment to D&I and Talent Development.
  • Direct relevant work experience in a large, complex, and matrixed organization.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • Recognized credibility and ability to influence across the enterprise and at the business president and LT level
  • Experienced manager and leader of people
  • Demonstrated business acumen.
  • Skillful and experienced with interventions regarding matters relating to Diversity
  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred)

Desired Skills

  • Demonstrated strategic and visionary leadership that inspires commitment to D&I beyond basic compliance and onto skill and competence
  • Proven mastery of fundamental diversity concepts, e.g. group identity, power and privilege, and internalized oppression
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, design and delivery of diversity and or talent development related educational material.
  • Experience in Talent Development and Succession Planning
  • Experienced with policies and practices of effective D&I efforts and management of affinity groups ((ERGs) Employee Resource Groups).
  • Experience engaging, partnering and influencing Senior Leadership to formulate and implement talent strategies and actions that will impact the business and drive required major change efforts.
  • Demonstrated track record leading organizational change
  • Established external relationships with Diversity related organizations
