Job Description
The Distance Education Academic Advisor/Admissions Officer is a full-time, administrative position reporting to the Director of Extended Studies. This position is primarily responsible for facilitating and empowering students toward fulfilling their academic and professional goals and ensuring ongoing student success in distance education programs. The DE Academic Advisor/Admissions Officer works closely with the Registrar, Undergraduate Admissions, Transfer Services, Extended Studies staff, faculty and other campus staff to facilitate admissions, enrollment, and effective advising leading to successful degree completion. This position will also monitor students to ensure appropriate levels of engagement and to provide support for faculty and staff working with online programs. This position will uphold and reinforce academic policy and quality standards. In addition, the DE Academic Advisor/Admissions Officer will serve on faculty and institutional committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution; master’s preferred, and a minimum of 1-2 years of experience. Experience working with diverse populations in a higher education environment. Experience teaching in a higher education environment. Academic advising experience, including review and evaluation of transcripts. Admissions experience. This individual should possess extensive knowledge of the general education curriculum, as well as articulation agreements (specifically the common articulation agreements between the UNC System and the NC Community College System).
