General Pet Supply Midwest is a pet food distributor. We are a family owned business, and have been committed to providing quality, service to our customers. We are currently seeking an experienced Warehouse Lead – 2nd Shift (3:00 pm start) for our Distribution Center in Wichita, KS.

Work Hours are Monday – Thursday from 3pm –11:30pm and Friday 5:00pm to 2:00am or when shift is complete

Job Overview

Our Warehouse Lead is responsible for assisting in overseeing the warehouse staff to ensure accurate and timely flow of product into and out of the warehouse in the most cost-effective manner. This is a working Lead position and requires performing the essential functions of the warehouse staff. Requires running the shift in the absence of the warehouse supervisor. Will receive inbound deliveries and put away pet food in warehouse. Select, clean, pack and palletize pet food, per customer order.

Qualifications / Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of previous Lead or Supervisory experience
  • 1+ year of previous warehouse experience.
  • Interpersonal and supervision skills to assist in the development, direction and delegation and of staff.
  • Excellent attention to detail and focus is a must to ensure accuracy and quality. Position requires an order accuracy rate of 97% or higher.
  • Safely operate and become certified in the operation of all warehouse equipment, including forklifts, walk-riders, slip sheet attachment, shrink-wrap machines and pallet jacks.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written format; able to read, write and speak English.
  • Understand, abide by and enforce all company/department policies and procedures.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Problem solve, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Flexible to changing customer or operational demands and able to work overtime on short notice. Position requires working until the job is complete.
  • Organized, cooperative and a team player.
  • Basic computer knowledge to be able to read and operate RF equipment.
  • Able to operate basic office equipment including telephones, copy machine & fax machine.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds

Specific Job Responsibilities

1. Assist in training and development of Warehouse Associates

2. Direct, assign and monitor work of Warehouse Associates; ensure orders are selected by layer and pallets are stacked level and loaded in proper sequence; ensure carts and pallets are organized, stable and secured properly on truck.

3. Maintain material handling equipment (checking fluid levels, plug into chargers, alert Management of defects or safety concerns).

4. Print invoices and proof of delivery for each route

5. Secure building at the end of shift

6. Communicate with Supervisor and Management to maintain efficient operations

7. Serve as acting Supervisor in his/her absence

8. Complete necessary paper/computer work accurately.

9. Operation of walk rider, slip sheet, pallet jack, cart and/or forklift to unload trucks, stock & rotate products and select orders in a safe manner and in compliance with company policies.

10. Unload product from shipment; inspect for damage, contamination, correct product(s) and correct quantity. Document and notify supervisor of any damage/discrepancy.

11. Take products to correct bin; put product into inventory (primary pick location or overstock) with handheld scanner.

12. Rotate product with expiration dates to maintain “first expire, first out”; includes placing cases/bags into overstock bin locations.

13. Insert pallet of product and/or manually load product into bin.

14. Sort Driver returned/damaged products.

15. Select food and/or accessory products to fill customer order and place on cart or pallet per customer and company requirements.

16. Rotate product with expiration dates to maintain “first expire, first out”; includes placing cases/bags into overstock bin locations.

17. Operate forklift to consolidate orders, load pallet on to shrink wrapper; operate shrink wrapper

18. Remove wrapped pallet from shrink wrapper and load onto truck (per company specifications) using walk rider or forklift. Stabilize load and equipment on truck (i.e. pallet jack, hand cart) with straps. Operate material handling equipment in a safe manner and in compliance with company policies.

19. Maintain cleanliness/safety of warehouse.

20. Recharge batteries for all electrical material handling equipment.

21. Provide high level of customer satisfaction with clean, accurate, on time, and damage-free orders.
