WSP is currently initiating a search for a Structural Engineer I for our New York, NY office. WSP’s Geotechnical and Tunneling group tackles some of the most complex underground projects in the world, including ongoing work on New York’s Second Avenue Subway, Amtrak’s Gateway Tunnels under the Hudson River, and new metro tunnels in Singapore. If you have strong analytical skills, a desire to learn and are excited to work on projects such as these, then WSP could be the ideal place for you.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design of underground structures including precast concrete tunnel linings, cast in place linings, shafts, cut and cover structures, and support of excavation systems
  • Preparation of drawings, specifications and reports
  • Numerical modeling using finite element computer programs
  • Field inspection & supervision of construction

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering, or related field
  • 3 years of structural engineering experience
  • Knowledge of current design codes and standards including ACI, AISC and ASTM
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling using finite element computer programs, such as SAP2000, STAAD, and PLAXIS.
  • Ability and willingness for travel and field work
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Good GPA on university courses covering underground and/or geotechnical engineering
  • Work experience designing or constructing underground structures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
