Job Description

Purpose

To support research in Dr. Marinelli's lab.

Essential Functions

Assist in routine histology of rodent brain tissue, including brain sectioning, mounting, bright field or confocal analysis of tissue and immunohistochemistry. Enter, catalog, and analyze data from immunohistology of brain tissue and behavioral experiments. Assist in routine animal care (weighing and recording animal health, pre and post-operative care, recording of all experimental procedures) and self-administration studies (behavioral testing, building of any needed supplies, computer programming, and maintaining proper functioning of the self-administration room).

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, life science or related field.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Laboratory experience. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Proficiency with excel and other Windows programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and data management. Proficiency with literature searches. Proficient with at least two of the following: rodent brain anatomy, brain slicing, confocal microscopy, bright field microscopy, immunohistochemistry.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds. The position requires the employee to be able to spend the majority of the time on his/her feet, standing, walking, or climbing on step-stools.

A criminal history background check will be required
for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement
System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the
position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length.
