Job Description

Under the oversight of the applicable Director, the Health and Wellness Coordinator will participate in the operation and development of fitness programs for youth and adults. In addition, the Health and Wellness Coordinator will recruit and supervise staff and volunteers related to such programs as well as assist in hiring. The Health and Wellness Coordinator will also act as the Active Aging Coordinator. The Active Aging Coordinator will develop and supervise the Senior Wellness Program. Responsibilities include teaching, planning social and educational activities, recruiting volunteers and assisting with special events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
College degree or working towards degree in a health related program preferred; must have high school education or equivalent.
Personal Training Certification preferred, required if conducting sessions
YMCA Healthy Lifestyles** and YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise or National Certification/YMCA Strength and Conditioning***

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually.
Must be physically fit in order to demonstrate aerobic exercises.
Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR effectively.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and listening skills.
Ability to lead and motivate others
Blood Borne Pathogen, Sexual Harassment Prevention and Child Abuse Prevention training within 60 days and renewed yearly.
Instruct and substitute senior group exercise classes as needed, specifically Silver Sneakers classes.
Coordinate the operation for the Senior Wellness Program including evaluation of program area and needs, program development and implementation.
Develop, coordinate and schedule all special events and activities.
Lead senior volunteer recruitment efforts for the branch.
Maintain programs to the YMCA standards and ensure compliance with requirements.
Facilitate new senior member engagement initiatives including conducting Maximize My Membership appointments, ensuring the proper introduction of equipment use.
Maintain a good rapport with Senior Wellness Program participants to respond to their needs and to represent the YMCA.
Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
Instruct personal training sessions as needed based on demand or difficulty.
Instruct group exercise classes as needed to support a fully diversified offering of fitness opportunities for members, maintaining a presence on the schedule.
Substitute teach classes as needed or requested by the Director.

Recruit, hire and supervise fitness staff and/or group exercise staff to assure quality performance and member engagement.
Oversee and teach Youth Strength Training sessions as needed.
Orientation of fitness center to members, minimum of 15 hours per week.
Facilitate new member engagement initiatives including conducting New Member Orientations, ensuring the ability to introduce appropriate exercise choice and equipment use. Also responsible for training of H&W staff on same.
Assist members with fitness consultations and evaluations.
Scheduling of all fitness staff and/or group exercise staff as required.
Monitor and verify the accuracy of hours worked by part-time Health and Wellness staff in the payroll system if required.
Prepare accurate incident/accident reports when needed.
Monitor certifications for all fitness staff.
Consult with members interested in personal training program, handle all paperwork, and assign trainers as requested by the Director.
Contribute ideas for ways to expand fitness programs and offerings to members.
Work with volunteers/interns for the fitness department when available.
Assist with fitness seminars, clinics and special events when possible.
Ensure Health and Wellness staff appropriately enforce YMCA policies and practices in weight and cardiovascular areas, including cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Perform duties as needed.
Maintain a good rapport with fitness program participants to respond to their needs and to represent the YMCA.
Assist the Health and Wellness Director in the development of promotional material as well as act in his/her absence.
