Benefits Specialist (Leave Management)( 0176701)
Job Purpose: Provide plan administration, participant communications and customer service with regard to the various employee and retirement benefits plans of the Institute (medical, dental, vision, flexible spending, disability, life insurance and retirement). Duties involve resolution of administrative issues, vendor interaction and problem solving.
Major Responsibilities:
- Administer the benefits programs of the organization (e.g., insurance policies, etc.)
- Interact with carriers and vendors regarding plan administration provisions.
- Explain and research benefit policies for employees.
- Assist employees with the appeal process.
- Constantly keep informed about Federal and State guidelines, and update policies and procedures to reflect the guidelines.
- Investigate and resolve individual benefits issues or questions as required.
- Escalate and advocate for employees related to specific benefits matters.
- Reconcile pre-tax benefit spending account contributions.
- Remain current on all plan provisions and changes as they occur; analyze relative to current plan offerings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Work Experience: Three to four years broad based benefit plan administration
- Certifications: N/A
- Skills: This job requires advanced working knowledge of content and provisions of employee benefit plans (medical, dental, vision, flexible spending, disability, life insurance) including vendor administration practices and processes. Additionally, skills in plan interpretation, customer service, communications, quantitative analysis, problem solving, and strong ethics and discretion are required.

- Preferred Work Experience: Leave management experience, Short term disability experience, Long term disability experience, FMLA experience, Military leave experience, Personal leave experience, LOA – Paid and Unpaid experience
- Preferred Certifications: Group Benefits Associate (GBA), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS)
- Preferred Skills: Knowledge of and experience in administration of provisions of USG benefits plans.
Additional Information:
Impact & Influence: This position will interact on a consistent basis with: campus HR representatives, employees, vendors, other USG benefit administrators, and GTHR staff. This position typically will advise and counsel: employees. This position will supervise: NA.

- Maintain a market-driven compensation structure in order to attract and retain employees.
- Advise employees and managers regarding work performance and conflict management.
- Provide professional development and learning to the Institute’s diverse workforce.
