We’re looking for people with premium-brand retail store experience who are ready to take it up a notch. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supporting all store operations and departments in partnership with the Store Manager or General Manager. Your responsibility may include buying for one or more departments and/or direct responsibility for operational functions. As part of your job, you will provide outstanding customer service to the academic and co-curricular community for meeting or exceeding the store’s sales goals, identifying business opportunities and motivating booksellers. You will also provide training, direction and coaching to booksellers to create excitement around products, programs and initiatives. By driving your staff to create customer experiences that enhance bookstore loyalty, you deliver measurable results for the store and for your school. Qualifications:
An ASM should have at least three years of retail management experience or a graduate of the Barnes & Noble College Bookseller Program . You are expected to work a majority of your time on the selling floor, which requires physical activity. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary.
As an ASM you are instrumental in helping to drive sales throughout the total store. You clearly assign work and provide focused direction to booksellers, managing and accomplishing multiple projects simultaneously to ensure the proper execution of the workload. This is accomplished, in part, by your regular presence on the sales floor. An ASM is able to learn under changing conditions, find solutions to issues in any situation and effectively cope with change, while handling the unexpected. You are able to anticipate the impact of your actions, ensuring integrity in your interactions with others. An ASM demonstrates a calm demeanor and manages issues appropriately and with respect, setting a positive example to the Store Team. You help to select the right people, ensure complete on-boarding and accurately assess skills in partnership with your Store Manager. An ASM fosters a fair and equitable workplace, encouraging an environment in which the team members express their concerns and ideas. You coach others by providing feedback, easily relating to others, building rapport and collaborative relationships with customers, clients and the Store Team. You are open to change and grasp new procedures, processes and technology quickly.
