About PACT:
People Acting in Community Together is a multiracial, multi-faith grassroots organization that empowers ordinary people to win extraordinary victories, not by speaking for them, but by teaching them how to build power and take action in the public arena for themselves.

As a member of the PICO National Network, PACT creates change on the local, state and national levels. Our issues include immigration; affordable housing; police accountability and creating a true public safety and justice system; and closing the racial and economic achievement and opportunity gap in public education.

PACT has a diverse staff and large base of volunteer, grassroots community leaders and clergy/faith leaders in 30+ member congregations and schools across San Jose and Santa Clara County. We are intentional about building a multicultural organization and putting race and faith at the center of our work.

Responsibilities :
Community Organizers with PACT work to engage and develop everyday people and faith leaders to act powerfully as grassroots community leaders for racial and economic justice and to create a community and society where #WeAllBelong. Community Organizers recruit, train and coach individual grassroots leaders and local organizing committees to identify priority community concerns, research potential solutions and secure commitments from policy makers to implement these solutions to improve the community. This includes:

Train and develop community leaders to build community power and take action effectively in the public arena.

Identify, engage and develop grassroots leaders by completing 15-18 one-on- one relational meetings every week with community members.

Build, support and train organizing committees in religious congregations and public schools that are moving through the PICO organizing cycle. (listening, research, action / encounter, disruption, re-imagining, prophetic action)

Develop and train voter engagement teams.

Work with faith and school leaders to support racial and economic justice in their institutions.

Work with others on the staff team in support of PACT organization-wide campaigns related to housing, immigration, public safety/criminal justice, education, voter engagement, and other community issues.

Participate in the PICO National Network’s state and national policy campaigns.

Participate in PACT’s communications, fundraising and organizational development efforts.

Qualifications :
BA degree, or equivalent work experience

Strong public speaking, writing, and analytical skills

Strong interpersonal and relational skills and curiosity about people

Discipline and ability to work effectively in highly unstructured environment

Desire to learn and openness to challenge

Strong interest in community and social justice issues

Experience working in diverse, multicultural and immigrant communities

Bilingual Spanish preferred

Community organizing experience (congregation-based, labor, or other) preferred

Experience with public policy analysis, advocacy or organizing preferred

Experience working in faith communities preferred

Experience using on-line and social media tools preferred

This is a full-time, exempt position, although part-time applicants with strong qualifications may be considered.

The job includes regular evening work and some weekend work.

There are opportunities for advancement within PACT and PICO.

Salary dependent on experience, starting at approximately $50,000.
