Job Description Summary: Shift Work The minimum starting salary is $27,674.
Under regular supervision performs responsible technical work on an assigned shift receiving calls for public safety, emergency services and other personnel. Receives emergency calls, determines the nature of the emergency and passes information to the appropriate Telecommunicator; maintains records, files, and logs; enters data; prepares reports.
Must have general knowledge of operating two-way communications systems and general knowledge of radio code system and teletype procedures. Must be familiar with the geography of the County. Has the ability to type 30 words per minute accurately. Has the ability to work under stressful conditions and remain calm.
Must be able to operate standard office, data entry and computer equipment and communications consoles. Has the ability to learn and apply new skills in the area of radio and telephone communications relative to emergency services. Requires the ability to read a variety of informational documents, maps, computer screens, books, procedure manuals, checklists, vehicle cards, weather teletypes, computer printouts, and methods and procedures. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with an emergency.
Performs related tasks as required. The minimum education and experience requirements are a High School graduate with the ability to learn and apply new skills in the area of radio communications relative to emergency services. Must successfully pass the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy forty-hour course and successfully complete and maintain SLED CJICS/NCIC certification. Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
